At breakfast, we talked about dreams.

Corporal Tanner said he dreamt he was in a temple where soft-spoken gods worked minor miracles; he dreamt he was waited on by an angel.

Then he rolled over and the dream changed: he was alone in bed and the numbness that had been in his left side spread throughout his body; he was having a heart attack, and he was paralyzed with fear. There was a phone on the nightstand but he could not reach for it. He dreamt that he somehow pitched himself out of bed and was on the floor, straining toward the phone, and was very surprised to wake up still in bed, after all.
